Cidade das Águas – Joinville, SC

Pedra Branca, now Hurbana, is a remarkable example of planned neighborhoods in Brazil. Its forward-thinking approach and the involvement of internationally renowned professionals in its original development built a strong and respected reputation. In this project, we were invited to develop a place vision to support the creation of a new neighborhood in Joinville. The initial research resulted in a robust city report, which served as a guiding framework for a collaborative project development process known globally as a charrette, similar to design sprint methodologies.

Although charrettes are not typically conclusive processes on their own, they provide an essential first understanding of the place and enable the participation of highly qualified multidisciplinary teams, given their short, intensive execution timeframe.
